Hi all,
Last week we had a mini Vallmeet at Orewa.
What a hoot! Beau 10 yrs. old, Buster 9 yrs. old, Rinka 18 months old, Candy 7 months old and little Maya (the honorary Vall) at 18 months old. The two older gentlemen greeted the young ones politely and then proceeded to grump and grumble their way all along the walk. Not that the babies paid any attention - they were far too busy playing rough and tumble in the long grass, puddles and lots of beautiful mud!
Most of you will know Beau, Buster and Rinka by now, but Candy and Maya will be new to you.
Candy is one of Lynne's pups out of Ruby and Dexter. Owned by Courtney Edwards, Candy lives on a farm and is totally at home with the horses, and loves to ride on the ATV.
What an absolutely gorgeous girl she is - the spitting image of her mother. And what a tom boy! She literally launched herself into every puddle (and there were many) along the way, and found every muddy patch available. Rinka and Maya followed her lead of course, so there were three little mud rats to deal with at the end of our walk.
Little Maya looks a lot like a Vall, argle-bargles like a Vall, but alas is not a pure Vall (a bit of Fox Terrier in there somewhere), but she loved zooming and playing with the Valls so has been dubbed an 'Honorary Vall' and is very welcome to join us in future Vallmeets. Christine Francis is owned by Maya and what a lovely, fun pair they are. Maya came into Christine's life when she was most needed, and they are now both very happy. I think a Norse God or two were looking after those two also.
Below are a few photos taken on the day, thanks to Courtney who was the only one who remembered to bring a camera.
I'm blowed if I can find a way of placing these photos in some cohesive format. Never mind at least you get to see them.
Top: Cindy, Maya, Rinka, Buster and Beau. I cloned out the rogue's gallery. With the wind being so strong, most of us looked as though we'd been dragged through the bushes backwards.
Next: Maya, Rinka and Candy playing at Greyhound racing around the grass track.
Next: Maya looks as though she's had a telling off from Uncle Beau the C.O.P.
Next: Rinka daring Candy to 'catch me if you can'.
Next: The Gang. From the front: Maya, Rinka, Buster and Beau, with Candy heading off in the distance no doubt in search of another puddle.
The dogs had a ball, and the humans enjoyed meeting each other. All in all a great time was had by all.
A big thank you to April (Cash's mum), Lynne and Cheril for their support in purchasing a page for the calendar.
Keep those cameras clicking, and send me any that you feel would be suitable to be included in the calendar.
ROLL ON SPRING!

Due to the continuing cold, wet weather around the country, there are no Vallmeets to report

I came upon Fred and his rehomed Vall (Von Zipper) in Browns Bay last week. Zip is looking very well and healthy. Fred is delighted with Zip's gradual socialization into the 'Cafe Society". He's got the beach sussed now and is great with the other dogs he meets there. He loves swimming and his mate (Fred's older dog, Flip) sits calmly on the sand watching his 'charge' enjoying the water. Unfortunately I didn't have my camera with me so I can't show you what a beautiful dog he is with his long coat. Maybe next time.

Cheril is working towards gathering some sponsorship for the 2012 calendar to allay any shortfall. We have come up with a new format which we hope you'll like.

As you can see, the advertising will be top/middle of the page at a cost of $100.00. If we don't sell all of the pages, that spot will be used to remind us to visit the NZSV Group website and perhaps a wise comment on the value of our animals could be another option. Advertising is also being offered at $50.00 for a black and white spot at the bottom of the calendar dates page.
The idea of having more than one photo per calendar month is to allow everyone a chance to have their dog/s' photo displayed.
If the photo is of suitable quality it will be included. This will also dispense with the need for voting. It is so disappointing when some have to miss out. I would appreciate your comments on what is proposed for the calendar.
Get your cameras ready and send any photos (portrait is OK for this format) to me at [email protected]

I have some good news to impart - my darling Beau has lost over 2kgs over the last month, and now weighs in at 17.5Kg.
Beau has always hovered between 19kg. and 20kg. I've tried many feeding regimen over the years, but had only managed to get him down to 18Kg. once, and then only for a short time. I'm feeding him on raw meat medallions, Tukkathyme muesli and biscuits. He's certainly not hungry! He has miles more energy and is looking great.
I'm not advocating this diet as all dogs differ in their needs. Hilda's Vallboy Buster for instance can't take raw meat - it runs straight through him, whereas this diet suits Beau. He enjoys it without any unpleasant side effects and its easy and affordable for me.

These photos are not in the order I wanted, but can't help that. The photo on the right is a photo of my new svelte Beau with his little girlfriend Rinka taken last Friday.
I just had to show off Beau's new coat. It was made by a dear little 10 year old girl especially for Beau - its just a pity the armholes are where his ribs are - he can't move his front legs!!! A lovely sewing job and a lovely thought.
